She wanted to add a poem to the card, but wanted me to write it. I only know very little about this newly married couple, so this posed to be a bit of a challenge. Still, it was kind of a fun activity. Here's what I came up with:

You two have been married for just a short time,
You’re still getting used to each other’s behinds.
They say that the first year is forever the hardest,
But look what together you’ve already accomplished.

You got through the summer without breaking a sweat,
Then Halloween and Thanksgiving like a sweet minuet.
Now Christmas is here, and you’re still strong as ever,
This is just the beginning of your eternal endeavor.

The New Year gives all a little time to reflect,
And sometimes that spawns an unpleasant effect.
What things might happen, come February?
Will what once were smooth legs become a bit hairy?

Will the pounds be packed on from all the food you devoured?
Will you even remember the last time you showered?
This gift is to help you not sink to that low,
So give it more time before you let yourself go.

For your first Valentine’s as an old married pair,
You must show the love that you equally share.
So when that day comes, don’t run around frantic,
Just use what’s been given to be a little romantic.

Ok, I'm back.

I mean business this time. You know how I know? Because this time I spent a good amount of time designing my new background. For poor recent grads like me, I think that's what they call an investment. Anyway, I'm no designer, so sorry if you think it's ugly.

I've decided that I want to have a topic that I blog about often. However, I haven't decided what that topic is going to be yet. So for now, I'm just going to blog about things that I'm doing, little projects I'm working on or want to work on, or just anything that I'm thinking about at the time. I'll come up with a brilliant topic later. Then become filthy rich because of it.

So, here we go!

I graduated from BYU in April of 2010 with a degree in Advertising and an emphasis in Copywriting. My wife and I had a beautiful baby girl in March of 2011 and we've been playing with her ever since.

Yeah, we're all caught up now. Well, sort of.

What to remember when making a ringtone for your wife

So there I was, sleeping peacefully after another long night of work, when all of a sudden the devil was screaming.

What's bad, is that my wife actually told the devil to scream at that precise moment. She scheduled it.

What's worse, is that I created the devil's scream last Sunday afternoon right after I got home from church.

I created a ringtone for my wife using a song she likes. Still, I failed. If only I would have added a "fade in" to it, I wouldn't have any problems. I put the "fade out" on there no problem! Eesh.

That needs to be fixed immediately. Immediately, as soon as I have time.

The Search of a Lifetime

I guess I'm not very good at this blogging thing yet... it's almost been an entire month since my last post. Oh, how time flies. But to my credit, February only has 28 days, so saying an entire month doesn't seem fair. My bad.

So here's the deal: I graduate from BYU in April and then I have to start real life. So at this point, I am trying to do what I can to figure out how that real life is going to go. The Advertising program at BYU is great. There are a lot of students in the program, but we still have teachers that are trying to help us all out to find internships. The teachers have a lot of connections with the best Advertising agencies everywhere, but especially in New York City and Chicago. Every year, they go out to these cities and hook up a bunch of the students with Spring and Summer internships. Most of them are unpaid, put provide the best experience you can get. Last year, I went to New York City and it was really great. I still don't know what's going to happen this year, but I hope to find something soon.

We had the creative recruiter from Leo Burnett in Chicago come and visit our campus on Thursday. We have known that he was coming for quite a while, so I have been working on my portfolio for a long, long time in order to have it somewhat finished when he came. He was a really nice guy and sat down with me for a few minutes while he went through my book. He gave me great comments on how to improve and told me he will definitely consider me for an internship. That sounds positive if you look at it positively, but it also sounds negative if you look at it negatively. I'll pretend I'm neutral so I don't get my hopes up or get depressed.

For now, I've got a few other leads I will pursue, but if I don't blog again for a while, hopefully it's not because I'm homeless...

First Real Post

What do you say in the first post of your blog? Do you introduce yourself? Do you tell about everything that has previously happened in your life? It's not my fault that I haven't been blogging since I was born. Blogging wasn't compatible with DOS at that time. Well, maybe it was, I don't know. Let's try it out...

C:\>cd internet
C:\internet>cd blog
Error loading "blog". Please insert floppy disk and press Return.

Ha... floppy disk.

To be honest, I was never fond of the idea of blogging. Yes, I've always wanted the world to know of everything I have to say, but I never thought I would have to resort to blogging to get that accomplished. Ok, so this still probably won't get read by more than five people, but hey - those are five people I care about. Yes, I care about you.

Ok, so here's my life in one sentence. I was born and raised in Colorado where I went to elementary, middle, and high school right before I went to college at Brigham Young University in Utah where after a year I went to Toronto, Canada to serve a mission for my church before coming back to Utah to go back to school and meet my beautiful wife who convinced me to study Advertising because it is a major that would lead to a job which would allow me to support a family even though I haven't gotten that far yet because I don't graduate until April. One sentence.

I may have left out a few minor details, but I'll allow you to use your imagination to fill in the gaps.
